I'm an avid reader and usually go through a couple books a month. From time to time I'll stray into political or sociological books, but I tend to stay within the horror/sci-fi genre the most.

There are so many bright shining stars in the literary firmament that it's almost impossible to note them all. Here are some of my favorite authors - as well as those who have influenced me through their works.

Jim Butcher - The tales of Harry Dresden, the only Wizard in the Chicago phonebook, always keep me guessing. I never know where Jim's going to take the story next and I've loved what he's touched on so far - and how.

Kim Harrison - The saga of Rachel, Ivy and Jenks captured my interest quickly and has fallen into the ranks of the books that I'll scoop up as soon as they come out - hardcover or not. The woman has cast iron balls when it comes to dealing with her characters and her storyline, which I hugely admire. The character development is just stunning.

Faith Hunter - Her Bloodring book presents a wonderfully original postapocalyptic world that touches on some interesting social issues. Great fantasy.

Lilith Saintcrow - I got quickly hooked on her Dante Valentine series. I'm really fond of her mixture of technopagan and high-tech luddite-ish flavors as well as the interesting spin she's put into her hybridization of a mixture of religions, including Vodou and Santeria.

Patricia Briggs - I'm really fond of her recent Mercy Thompson series. Who wouldn't love a shapeshifting coyote garage mechanic?

Charlaine Harris - Sookie Stackhouse may just be my favorite character ever. These books are a phenomenal mixture of bittersweet purity mixed with a wonderful horrific playground of events. They almost have a dreamy, childlike feel to them that makes me happy in a way that I honestly don't have words for.

Anne Bishop - I love the emphasis she puts on the responsibility of the human heart for the direct effects it has on the world around it. The Realms of the Blood, The World of the Fae and the Landscapes of Ephemera - I love it all.

Mario Acevedo - Another great spin on the vampire idea - an ex-soldier turned by a rank of the undead during his stint in Operation Iraqui Freedom.

David Sosnowski - Rapture and Vamped completely kicked my head open. Vamped is actually one of my favorite books in the genre that I've ever read. Rapture is similarly outstanding. His writing style is remarkably poetic, dark and hilarious at the same time.
